Hi Settlers! My name is Karis, a brand-new intern at Settlement, and here's a little bit about me:
I'm originally a small-town Texas gal who has an ongoing infatuation with with big cities. I moved to the lively city of Philadelphia from the unnaturally warm Texas summer with wide eyes and grand expectations. After two years residing in Philly, my eyes are just as wide and my expectations have been met. It's become some type of home to me.
I'm currently a rising junior at the University of Pennsylvania, majoring in English and minoring in Music. I'm the girl who's lucky enough to be spending the length of the summer at Settlement Music School (the Mary Louise Curtis Branch) as the Digital Marketing and Community Engagement Intern (it's a elegant mouthful of a title, right?). I'm a total music-head and play the oboe, clarinet, piano, as well as sing in my jazz and pop college a cappella group, Counterparts (and yes, it's just like Pitch Perfect...kind of). My hobbies include, but are not limited to: writing poetry, reading short fiction, bingeing on British drama period pieces, and discussing the merits of various cheeses. This summer, you may catch me at a branch near you taking pictures or randomly asking strangers questions. It's a pretty fun gig.
Welcome to my summer-long blog about all-things Settlement! I'll be documenting my experiences with this historical beauty of a place; I hope you find my words to be little windows that illuminate the Settlement Way.
