The second largest string instrument in the orchestra.

The cello is slightly smaller than a double bass and slightly larger than a viola. As a member of the string family, its four strings can either be bowed or plucked. The cello is often used as a solo instrument, as well as in chamber ensembles and symphony orchestras.
