Individual lessons are offered at all levels in all keyboard, string, brass, woodwind, and percussion instruments, as well as composition and music theory. Settlement requires students to have an instrument for study and, in limited circumstances, may be able to assist students in acquiring instruments on loan. Many local vendors offer instrument rentals at reasonable rates. Settlement maintains and distributes a list of vendors at each branch for the information of students, but not as an endorsement.
Voice instruction is offered to students age 14 and older. The Gleeksman-Kohn Children's Choir is recommended for children ages 8-14 who wish to develop their singing skills.
Students may begin lessons at any time throughout the year. For registration and scheduling information, contact the Branch Coordinator at the branch location nearest to you.
The Advanced Study Program is a special scholarship program for students ages 13 to 18 (or through completion of high school) with an interest in pursuing pre-professional training.
The Ensemble Program provides weekly instruction for students to develop musical skills that complement and build upon Individual Instruction. This intensive program requires practice and commitment with an emphasis on performance. Select ensembles will have opportunities throughout the year to participate in inter-city musical exchanges.
