Settlement’s Summer Session runs for six weeks, from June 26 to August 4, 2017, at all branches.

Individual instruction in all instruments is offered, along with numerous ensembles and classes and a week-long summer camp for jazz students. For students of all ages, the Summer Session can serve as an introduction to Settlement’s programs or as a continuation of studies from the rest of the year.

Six Week Sessions, June 27 to August 5


Ages 6 to 18 months & 19 to 36 months;

Bringing children and grownups together for fun and interactive games and activities emphasizing music and movement.

Available at all branches!


Ages 4 to 9 years

Beginning theory skills, ear training, notation and musical development through singing, creative expression and body movement, and beginning ensemble work.

Ages 6 to 9 years

Classical ballet technique and style, and beginning dance classes.

Ages 12 and older; One-hour sessions;

Learn the chords, riffs and rhythms that make up the songs you love, hone your skills with guidance from seasoned musicians, and play those tunes with your new bandmates.

Must have at least two years experience and be able to read music and chord changes; One-hour sessions;

Learn the art of improvisation in combos. All levels are offered from beginning jazz musicians to advanced musicians.

Group Classes for Beginning Students

adult Chamber MUSIC FESTIVAL

July 21-23, 2017
Willow Grove Branch

Spend an unforgettable three-day weekend exploring chamber repertoire for string, piano and/
or woodwind ensembles. Daily schedule includes two self-directed chamber rehearsals, two
60-minute coached sessions, and special interest sessions for chamber musicians.

*Additional $10 Registration Fee required for each class/session/camp.

Instrumental Performance CAMPS 

Jazz Camp

All Skill Levels, Middle/HIgh School Age
July 24-28

  • Full Day (9 AM to 3 PM)

For students who play drums, electric guitar, bass, keyboard, and wind and string instruments.
Students form small ensembles based on skill level, study big band playing and technique, jazz standards, jazz improvisation, history and composition. Camp focuses on introducing and developing strong jazz skills and learning how to play in an ensemble and concludes with a final performance at a local venue.

Chamber Camp

Settlement Music School’s Summer Chamber Music Camp provides small ensemble experience for string and woodwind players. Students will receive individual attention from faculty with emphasis on teamwork, good musicianship, careful tuning, rhythm, and the musical satisfaction of playing in a small group. No previous ensemble experience is necessary.

The daily schedule includes string or woodwind trio, quartet or quintet coaching, snack, and large ensemble rehearsals. Camp concludes with a performance on Friday.

Rock & Pop Improvisation for Strings

Intermediate and advanced students, Ages 12 and up;
Six Weeks, June 27 to August 5; Wednesdays, 5 to 6 PM

Learn to how to play hit songs on your instrument, play in a band setting, and understand how to think like a rock musician on a classical instrument.
